A Family of Heroes

I just got a call…

…from our friend Iyad Burnat.  You may remember the camera that our sister organization, ISM, sent to his brother, Emad Burnat. It was the second broken camera in the film Five Broken Cameras, which was nominated for an Academy Award.  Iyad is the leader of the nonviolent resistance movement in the town of Bil’in, which has held nonviolent demonstrations against Israeli land confiscations every Friday for more than a decade, and they won an Israeli court case to get back part of their land, but they didn’t stop resisting.  Iyad has been on several speaking tours in the North America and Europe.

He has been in prison more than ten times, and one of his sons also.  Another son, Majd, lost his leg to an Israeli bullet.  They are very courageous.  They had to pay a fine of more than $11,000 (80,000 NIS) to get another of their sons out of prison.  Now they don’t have enough money to cover Majd’s tuition at Iden University in Istanbul, where he is studying civil engineering.  Iyad says they raised all except $1800, and it’s needed now.  We need to take care of our heroes.

A Gofundme page for Majd is at https://ca.gofundme.com/majds-education-fund but if you want your donation to be tax exempt, you can send your check to
